  • What is the assessment process like?
Parents have to provide informed consent and complete a questionnaire regarding child's development. These documents are to be emailed back to the psychologist prior to the first appointment. On the day of assessment, the psychologist will conduct an intake interview with parents before proceeding with the assessment. Depending on the referral concern, an assessment may take 1-4 sessions to complete. 3-4 weeks after the assessment is completed, parents will receive results in a feedback session and a psychological report.
  • What is the duration of the assessment?
Depending on the type and number of tests required to answer the referral concern, the duration of a session ranges from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Breaks are allocated at appropriate times for child to rest. For young children, a session will not be more than 2 hours. If multiple tests are required, the assessment can be done over 2-3 days to reduce fatigue.
  • Are the results of the assessment confidential?
Yes, definitely. Results of the assessment are only provided to parents/caregivers. Parents/caregivers may choose to provide copies of the psychological report to relevant parties at their discretion. Should parents require the psychologist to share information about the child with external parties, they will have to waive their right to confidentiality in writing.
  • My child is shy with unfamiliar people. Will assessment results be accurate if he doesn't talk much?
We endeavour to put your child at ease before commencement of an assessment. This may be done by interacting with him using their favourite toys and games. If required, warm-up sessions may be conducted before the date of assessment to establish rapport.
  • Where in my home can the assessment/intervention be conducted?
To ensure that the space or room is conducive, it has to be a quiet, well-ventilated area of the house that has few distractions (i.e. not in front of the television, areas of high traffic, toys not easily accessible). For assessments, a square or rectangle table and 2 chairs that are of appropriate height for your child is needed.
  • Are there other options if my home is not conducive for an assessment/intervention to be done?
Assessments/Intervention can be conducted in other settings that child is familiar with, such as therapy centre or school, if appropriate. Alternatively, the assessment/intervention can be conducted at a private early intervention centre along Tampines St 12.
  • How frequent should intervention be done?
The frequency varies depending on referral concern, and agreed upon between parents and psychologist. Typically, intervention sessions are conducted once a week or forthnightly for about 1-1.5hrs. However, there may be situations where more frequent sessions are recommended. As your child makes progress, frequency of intervention may be reduced to once a month or longer, and intervention is gradually faded out.
